Workshop on Female Foeticide Held

Aligarh. A one-day workshop of panchayati raj representatives was organised in the auditorium of Shiksha Vikas Sabha, Ghanghauli, on the topic female foeticide and birth registration. The workshop was organised with support from Plan International and Vatsalya.

The gram pradhan of Gaurola said for social balance and progress, it was necessary that women and men were equal in numbers and maintained harmony in all walks of work.

The secretary of the organisation Girdhari Lal said social evils are there in backward and underdeveloped society. But it is irony that social evil like female foeticide existed in the higher groups as compared to the backward society. If the trend continued, frightening situation will develop.

Pradhan of Khedia Khurd laid emphasis on birth registration and said while taking birth was the first right of the child, registration of birth was her first constitutional right. Fathers of children must ensure that they get their infants registered within 21 days of the birth and get the certificate free of cost from the panchayat secretary.

Representatives of Salpur, Maduk and Kansera put forth their problems. Pradhan of Ghaghauli appealed all the participants to cooperate to end this evil.

In the end, block coordinator of the project Jorawar Singh thanked all the participants for attending the workshop.
